The rhyolite is a volcanic rock (generally leucocratic, except as obsidian which is usually black.) Whose SiO 2 content exceeds 71 wt% and where the alkali content (Na2O + K2O) can be very variable . This rock is characterized by a low iron and magnesium. This rock is the richest in silica that occur on Earth.
